Under 11s at the league cup final

U11 Jets 2008It was a valiant effort, but the Under 11s Jets were denied at the last by Wilsden in the final of the Craven, Aire and Wharfedale League cup.

After going a goal down in the first half, they rallied to level the scores with some neat passing moves through the midfield. One found Jahro Parchment, who shot low past the Wilsden keeper to the bottom right corner of the net. While the Jets created more chances, Wilsden always looked dangerous on the break and when they scored late on with a lobbed shot, there was no chance to reply.

Still, it was a great day out and, with the game played on the full pitch at Valley Parade in front of a good crowd,  inspiring for the lads from the younger age groups who had turned out to watch. Let's see if the Under 11s can make the final again next year and the younger teams can repeat the feat when their turn comes. A full report will follow shortly.

Annual General Meeting

The Westwood AGM will be held on Monday 16th June at Clayton Heights Working Men's Club. Westwood is unlike many clubs in that it is run wholly by the parents. This means we all have a stake and we all have a voice so be sure to come along and have your say.

Westwood Under 7s at the Bradford City tournament

U7s at the Bradford City tournament.

The summer tournaments are some way off but the Under 7s already have a notable victory under their belts. They won an event organized by Bradford City at the end of the Easter holidays. It was a great performance that saw them undefeated on the day - in fact, they were through the first round before they conceded a goal.

Under 9s Jets then and now

U7 Jets 2006 U9 Jets 2008Well done to the Under 9s Jets who regained the Keybury League Blue Division title. A win away at Shipley put them out of reach of the chasing pack. It brought back memories of the game at the same ground two years ago when the Jets won the Under 7 league. The pictures show how the lads have changed. But the feeling hasn't - it's fantastic!

Westwood Under 7s at the Burnley tournament

  U7s at the Burnley tournament

Well done to the Under 7s who enjoyed their first taste of 5-a-side last Thursday. The tournament, organized by Burnley FC, featured invited teams from Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield. The Westwood lads did well, taking on some sides that play 5-a-side week in week out. Their record of three wins out of five included some notable scalps from the Keybury League. Next stop, the summer tournaments!

Could this be the start of something?

  U6s at the Horsforth friendly

A number of the U6s and U7s who train with them got the chance to test their progress at a friendly event organised by Horsforth St Margarets. Josh Allan, Josh Milnes, Max McGuire, Adam Fiztpatrick, Grace Perry, Imahl Williamson, Ethan Allen, Ben Turasz and Luke Stoyles had two battling games and a good win. Even better, the skill, heart and enjoyment they showed means this could be the start of another great Westwood team. Strong running from Max, Adam, Josh Allen and Josh Milnes, dogged defending by Grace, Ben and Luke and super goalkeeping from Imahl were the highlights. But there were great goals, tackling and passing from all players. Thanks go to Horsforth St Margarets for a tremendous morning.

Westwood website

This is (hopefully) the start of the Westwood Juniors website. Thanks for checking it out – I’d like to know what you think.

Is there anything that’s wrong? Is there anything you think should be added? Is there anything you’re not comfortable with, particularly regarding your own child?

I could do with images (digital, or I can scan in good old-fashioned photos), stories, match reports or any other information about the club, teams or games that you have – as you can see, pretty much all of mine is about Adam or the under 8 Jets. In particular, I’d like to change the action shot on the homepage from time to time.

In time there are other features I can add, like photo galleries and a blog that will allow managers to post information and everybody else to contribute directly to the site.
