Match report
Shipley Lions 0 - 3 Westwood Jets
Saturday 12th April 2008
The Jets came fast off the blocks, looking to take control and soon had
a two goal lead. They've been working on corners and in recent matches
have managed more headers in the opposition penalty area. This time,
Jake Dawson hit a perfectly-weighted corner ball, Ross Kelly jumped and
headed it in before Shipley could defend it. We'd been waiting for that
all season! Ross also scored the second, running on to the ball after
it was saved from an Adam Perry shot. Shipley grew stronger but another
fine defensive performance saw Joe Allan, Jacob Ashbrook and Finley
Richardson keep their tenth clean sheet of the campaign. Lewis
Goldsborough made sure with a low shot from the extreme right that
slithered beneath the keeper, just as Kieran Walton was ready to pounce.
Then, the final whistle blew... and the Jets were league champions.
What a season - since last September they've taken on some great
players and sides from Keighley, all over Bradford, Leeds and Kirklees
and come out on top. What a team! WELL DONE LADS.
