Queensbury Cougars 1 - 3 Westwood Jets
Sunday 4th October 2009
The lads were looking to take advantage in the first half, playing downhill but after five minutes found themselves behind after Queensbury scored against the run of play. But the Jets were not put off and, with Ellis Wade pushing the Queensbury defence all the way, Mathew Rountree put them on level terms, finding the bottom corner of the net. The Jets kept things tight in midfield with Tyler Rhodes, Matty Malloy and Andrew Hawley all challenging for the ball. The lads were looking for the second goal and it came from James Larvin, who scored from a very tight angle to take them into the break at 2-1.
The Jets came out for the second half with the same determination they showed in the first. Declan Wilkinson and Ryan Tucker were made to work hard after Queensbury resorted to the long ball and James Topham made two great saves to keep them out. Tyler Rhodes and James Larvin were both left shaking their heads after their shots found the post and the bar to keep the score unchanged. But, with 5 mins to go, the Jets got a free kick on the right hand side of the box and Mathew Rountree hit the ball low and hard through a crowd of players to make the final score 3-1. It was a good win for the Jets with every boy playing their part. James Topham was awarded the man of the match.
