Gomersal/Cleckheaton Pumas 1 - 6 Westwood Jets
Sunday 1st March 2008
Westwood gave a
fantastic team performance today. All their hard work paid off as every player's
attributes complemented each other making the team seem invincible.
It began with a
strong tackle from Josh Silson who then found Oliver Kirkpatrick with a good
pass. Great wing play by Oliver resulted in a fantastic cross to Tyler Rhodes,
who timed his run to perfection, meeting the ball with a crisp volley to the
top corner of the net. Gomersal’s equaliser came from a well planned
counter-attack. It caught the Jets by surprise but served to increase their determination. Josh then
embarked on a mazy run beating 3 players before scoring the second goal from a
close range shot.
Matthew Molloy,
playing a key role in defence made some strong, solid tackles to hold the opposition at bay. Declan, our Trojan
keeper and captain for the day, commanded his box well, organising his defence
as Gomersal won a number of corners. The Jets had some fantastic chances of
their own, which kept Gomersal’s goalkeeper on his toes as he battled hard to
keep them out. But from the goal kick, Josh intercepted, beat a Gomersal player
then unleashed a fierce drive into the bottom left corner making the score 3-1
at half time.
Some great
mid-field play resulted in Ellis Wade receiving a well placed pass from Josh to
put Oliver through. Oliver struck firmly, giving their keeper no chance. The
Jets’ fifth came from man-of-the-match Ellis who, after weaving through 3
players with great skill, completed a fabulous goal. Finally Josh completed his
hat-trick after some neat passing, a strong run with a long range effort,
giving the Jets a well deserved victory.
