Match report

Westwood Dolphins 3 - 2 Shipley Lions
Sunday 21st September 2008

The Dolphins welcomed Shipley Tigers in their first home game of the season. With the good weather and well prepared pitch, it was all set for a great match. The game started with the Dolphins having the majority of possession, but against the run of play Shipley scored and the dolphins found themselves 1-0 down. The team kept their heads up and battled on. Shipley conceded a free kick just over the half way line. Callum Warne-Cleave stepped up to take it and swung a great left-footed ball into the area, finding Ryan Abbasi who slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1. The Dolphins then got a free kick just outside the area and Callum stepped up again and dispatched the ball into the top left hand corner to make it 2-1 at the break. In the second half, both teams worked really hard and James Topham made a great save to keep the Dolphins in Front. But with 5 minutes to go, Shipley equalised and appeared happy to go home with the draw. The Dolphins battled on and in the last minute, when James Larvin got the ball in his own half and ran the length of the pitch beating 2 players and fired the ball past the oncoming keeper to win the game with a great solo effort. The man of the match was awarded to Sam Hastings who had a fantastic game at left back.
