Match report
Maccabi Leeds 4 - 4 Westwood
Sunday 18th October 2009
The
under 8s played against their most competitive rivals from last
season. With the confidence of three victories and 18 goals behind them,
they started the game well but soon realised they were going to all
have to be on the top of their game. The first ten minutes was fairly
equal then Jordan Harrison ran through from midfield, before dribbling
to the edge of the area and finding the bottom corner. That was the
only goal of the first half but there was still some excellent play
from both sides and some very good goal-keeping at both ends.
The
second half didn't disappoint and it turned out to be a great game of
football that was a credit to both sets of players, showing they can
produce this standard of play at under-8 level. A corner kick bought
Westwood's second goal when Jacob McIntosh crossed for Lucas Keenen to
volley in the ball for his ninth of the season. But the boys didn't
have it all there own way and conceded there first goal of the season
when the Leeds forward wasn't closed down and hit a powerful shot into
the corner.
After the goal the boys responded really well and
soon restored their two-goal lead when Jacob McIntosh went on a solo
run before skilfully back-heeling the ball to lose the defender and
rolling the ball across for Ethan Allen to tap into the net. Again,
though, Leeds hit back and man-of-the match Joseph Gallagher had to be
at his best in goal on several occasions before he was eventually
beaten again for 3-2.
The game entered the last few minutes and
was end to end when Jacob McIntosh hit a shot with power to give the
keeper no chance to cap a great performance by him for 4-2. With less
than a minute to go Leeds got a third goal from a corner to make the
score 4-3 and that's how it finished, all the boys played a part today
and should be proud of their performances.
