Match report
Westwood 3 - 2 Albion Sports
Sunday 22nd November 2009
The
boys maintained their unbeaten run with a hard fought win against
Albion Sports - who came into the match with only one defeat
against them - and made it a great test of Westwood's ability in poor
conditions.
The match started with some good midfield battling
before Lucas Keenen pounced on a save from the keeper to blast the ball
into the net from a tight angle for his twelfth goal of the season.
Soon afterwards, some good defensive play from Daniel Francis released
the ball to the wing for Ethan Allen who helped it into the area then,
as the Albion defenders only half cleared the ball, Jacob McIntosh
riffled it into the net for 2-0 and his fifth goal of the season. But
Westwood didn't have it all their own way and, just before half time,
Josh Allen was beaten in the Westwood goal after a scramble at a corner
wasn't dealt with for 2-1 at half time.
The boys came out for
the second half with main goalkeeper Joseph Gallagher in the net and he
was called upon later in the game to deal with a free kick which he
expertly punched away. The game continued to be a good midfield battle
with Tyler Ratnick sticking his head in were it hurts and Max Maguire
and Luke Drake getting stuck in. Ten minutes in, Ethan Allen went on a
good run before been taken down by an Albion defender and Jacob
McIntosh then stepped up to put a excellent free kick into the top
corner for 3-1, and his sixth goal of the season. Westwood were
punished with a break-away goal when to many of the team were running
forward with only five minutes remaining but the boys kept their shape
after that with Kian King and Josh Allen making good runs down
the wings to run the clock down.
The coaches named Jordan
Harrison the man of the match for stepping into the absent Jake Speed's
position at the back and defending with great determination and
aggression all game, winning several 50-50s and defying the fact
he has just gone seven years old.
