Match report
YMCA 3 - 2 Westwood Jets
Sunday 24th January 2010
Defending
a large goal at the wrong end of a fearsome-looking slope, the Jets
werre always going to be vulnerable to a well struck, long-range shot.
And so it proved, a free kick from just outside the area giving the
home side the start they wanted. The Jets had plenty of the play,
though, with skill in midfield and pace in attack. They could have
pulled a goal back but it was ruled offside. Nonetheless, they went
into the break just two down, looking forward to playing with the slope
in the second half.
The Jets pressed and the pressure began to
tell as Lewis Goldsborough intercepted a short goal kick, firing it
straight back in. With the whole team commited to going forward,
there's always a risk of conceding on the break and YMCA regained the
two-goal advantage. The Jets responded with a neat move up the left,
finished by Dominic Anderson to pull a goal back. A fantastic penalty
save by Jacob Ashbrook kept the final score to 3-2. It was a close game
against a well-established and successful team in this league. If the
lads can gain promotion they know that, next season, they will be a
match for any team.
