Match report
Westwood Jets 11 - 1 Westend Lions
Sunday 27th September 2009
The
Jets were able to stretch their legs and pressed Westend all the way
for a very watchable win. They set up camp straight away in the Westend
half with Lewis Goldsborough and Ross Kelly making mischief in
midfield. The breakthrough eventually came when Connor Thompson took
charge of a goalmouth scramble. He was soon joined by James Leedale who
made a short individual run from the left then beat the keeper. Connor
struck again from further out with a skillful lob. Dominic Anderson
weighed in with a man-of-the-match-winning hat-trick. He turned the
first in as a right-hand corner found him at the far post; the second
was a penalty after Connor Thompson had been brought down. A
cross-field ball from Adam Perry was then worked up for Dominic to tuck
in for his third. He then charged through towards the box and, with a
big, dipping shot, finished the first half with four goals. While the
forwards built up a lead, it was maintained with great defensive cover,
particularly from Matthew Wardman and Patrick Henry at centre back.
The
second half was a quieter affair. James Leedale returned the Jets to
scoring ways as a Westend clearance found a Westwood player. Callum
Armitage worked the ball through central midfield to Adam Perry, who
made a little space then fired in a left-foot shot. Substitute striker
Kieran Walton turned in another corner. Then Jake Dawson stepped up to
take a free kick, placing it perfectly to pick out Kieran, who had lost
his marker, to help it home with an audacious back-heel. Once again,
Jacob Ashbrook had a great game in goal - he is really coping well with
the changes this season - and restricted the visitors to a single
consolation.
