Match report
Westend 0 - 4 Westwood Jets
Sunday 8th November 2009
The
Jets made a bright start and created a couple of openings. Westend
withstood the pressure, coming back into the game by picking the ball
up in midfield and using strength on the left flank. The Jets could be
forgiven for growing frustrated as they toiled while the decisions went
against them. But the best possible reply was a goal. A throw-in near
the right-hand corner flag found Connor Thompson. He chipped the
keeper, who got a hand to it, tipping it as far as Kieran Walton by the
far post for a tap-in.
The Jets fought harder in the second half
and weren't bested in any part of the pitch. Good exchanges by Kieran
and Jake Dawson on the left worked the ball up for Kieran's dangerous
cross, Dominic Anderson pounced and the lead doubled. Dominic pounced
again, picking up a short goal kick, steadying himself then returning
it to the goal with more conviction. There was time for a debut goal
from Urfan Hussain. Jake played a smart cross-field ball to James
Leedale who, along with Elliott Gelder, was battling hard on the right.
He released Ross Kelly, whose shot was saved only for Urfan to take the
second chance. Jacob Ashbrook made some crucial saves in the first half
and was pleased to keep a clean sheet but Dominic was man of the match
- his goals turned a difficult game in the Jets' favour.
