Match report
Westwood Jets 7 - 1 Linthwaite
Sunday 11th October 2009
A commanding second half performance gave the Jets a deserved win over league leaders Linthwaite.
Both
sides made a cagey start and it seemed the game would be played
entirely in the midfield. Then Connor Thompson broke free and a good
challenge from Linthwaite resulted in a corner. Then another. Then
another, but this time Adam Perry thumped the ball home. A speedy
Linthwaite attack caught the Jets defence napping for the equaliser.
Dominic Anderson put the Jets back in front but it was still an even
game going into the break.
The Jets took charge after the
restart. Adam Perry switched to left wing and, after an individual run
ended with a shot just wide of the far post, played a neat one-two with
Dominic then threaded the ball past the keeper. Dominic and Kieran
Walton worked the ball from a corner with Dominic getting the final
touch. By this time, the Jets had complete control of the centre of the
pitch, with Ross Kelly and Lewis Goldsborough picking up balls at will.
Elliott Gelder and Callum Armitage were a match for the Linthwaite
wingers while Matthew Wardman and Patrick Henry dealt comfortably with
a physically imposing Linthwaite forward line. Up front, Dominic and
Kieran created constant danger with James Leedale in support. James got
his goal with a short, careering run into the area and a deceiving shot
to finish. Dominic completed his hat-trick when Adam chipped a
defender, he collected the ball and chipped the keeper. Jake Dawson
began a move with a great cross-field ball. James Leedale gave it a
touch then Connor Thompson took it into the penalty area and completed
the scoring with a helping hand.
The visitors rallied at the
end but a couple of great saves from Jacob Ashbrook and then a superb
long-range clearance from off the line as Linthwaite were trying to
scramble it in took the Jets to the top of the table.
