Match report
Westwood Jets 8 - 0 Kirkheaton
Sunday 14th February 2010
The
Jets made an explosive start as the first move of the game ended when
Jake Dawson looped the ball over the Kirkheaton keeper. The visitors
fought back but found it hard to break the Jets down. A Westwood corner
landed on a defender's head and went in for an own goal. Kieran Walton
collected the ball from a throw-in, travelled round defenders and the
goalkeeper then finished from a tight angle. Two almost identical goals
rounded off the half. Both were well-struck shots from the left that
dipped a little before going in. The first came from Callum Armitage,
who made an overlapping run from left back. Central defenders Patrick
Henry and Matthew Wardman established a well-coordinated partnership
that also allowed Matthew to add his physical presence further up the
field, and good positioning led to him scoring the second.
There
were fewer goals after the break but some great entertainment. Jake
Dawson and Lewis Goldsborough showed vision to pick out spaces and
players then found them with some neat flicks and passes. Ross Kelly
and Elliott Gelder used power and speed to beat defenders. The ball
rattled around the Kirkheaton back line until Kieran picked it up and
fired it at the goal. Jake Dawson and Adam Perry worked a short
corner through to Dominic Anderson who confidently found the net. Then
Adam sent a ball through to Jake in the penalty area; the goalkeeper
got there first but was unlucky to see the ball trickle over the line
after his attempt to smother it. He had been busy and had made a number
of good saves. In the Westwood goal, Jacob Ashbrook also had work to do
but a commanding performance ensured another clean sheet.
