Match report
Kirkheaton 1 - 5 Westwood Jets
Sunday 18th October 2009
A
sleepy start by both teams but it was Kirkheaton who paid for the loss
of concentration when a handball gave a penalty that Dominic Anderson
calmly converted. Both sides rallied a bit after this and Kirkheaton
pulled a goal back. In reply, a corner from Jake Dawson found the head
of Kieran Walton and the referee judged it to have crossed the line.
The
Jets came out to play in the second half. Dominic sent a nicely
weighted through-ball for Connor Thompson to chase on the right. He
collected it, skipped round a defender and put a high shot through the
keeper's hands and in. Callum Armitage and Jake Dawson combined
effectively up the left and caused problems for the home side. Lewis
Goldsborough and James Leedale played so well in midfield that, for the
second week running, the opposition abandoned that area of the pitch.
They released the ball to Adam Perry who controlled it with a chest and
turn then shot low. The goalkeeper thought he had it covered but then
Kieran popped up to steer it past him. Adam took the ball again in an
identical way. This time it dropped to his left foot for a spectacular
volley. Kirkheaton still pressed forward when they could but dashed
themselves against the defensive wall of Patrick Henry and
man-of-the-match Matthew Wardman. Elliott Gelder snapped at people's
heels from right back, while Jacob Ashbrook had another good game in
goal.
