Match report
Drighlington 1 - 5 Westwood Jets
Sunday 13th December 2009
As
a cup game, this had a different feel to normal but the Jets went about
it with the usual purpose. There was plenty of pressure from
Drighlington early on, with some neat passing in search of their tall
target man. But some superb defending, marshalled by man-of-the-match
Matthew Wardman, dealt with both him and his suppliers.
After
some time off, the Jets needed a little more itme to get going but,
before long, they were passing well when they had the ball and
challenging hard when they didn't. The breakthrough came when Dominic
Anderson forced a ball that came over from the right-hand corner into
the roof of the net. Drighlington tried to respond but the Jets were
having none of it. Matthew Wardman powered out of defence, finding
Dominic who took it to the edge of the area before laying it off to the
left where Adam Perry beat the defender to it then blasted it past the
keeper.
The home side pulled a goal back after the break but
were unable to fully get back into the game thanks to the strength and
guile of Elliott Gelder. Patrick Henry, Jake Dawson and Callum Arnitage
and confidence in Jacob Ashbrook in goal. James Leedale and Ross Kelly
were uncompromising in midfield. Lewis Goldsborough fought for the ball
on the right, travelled through the Drighlington defence before driving
it past the keeper to restore the Jets' advantage. Adam played a great
ball right to Domninic who controlled it well then drew the keeper out
of the goal before passing to Kieran Walton to finish into an empty
net. There was time for Dominic to add a fifth, lobbing the keeper
after the ball broke to him via dfefence and midfield. And, with that,
the Jets marched on into the next round.
