Westwood Jets 13 - 1 Battyeford
Sunday 20th September 2009
A handsome win for the Jets and one that every player had a hand in. Dominic Anderson began at early doors, collecting the ball on the right and making his way through the penalty area before shooting across the keeper. A Battyeford clearance found Callum Armitage just outside the left of their penalty area and he returned it to the goal with a ferocious rising shot. The next three were forced in from the goalmouth, with good positioning from Connor Thompson and Jake Dawson and good pressure form Lewis Goldsborough. Connor Thompson called time on the first half with a fine individual run up the right before rounding the keeper and side-footing home.
The Jets continued steadily after the break, taking turns to add to the total. James Leedale was the man to convert a corner to a goal then Connor reprised his earlier solo effort. Adam Perry stepped up to take a free kick near the penalty area that cleared the wall, the heads and the keeper before dipping into the net. Then Jake topped a great run down the left with a fine cross which Dominic ran on to for an accomplished striker's finish. Elliott Gelder darted up the right and his shot flew low through the defence and in; Ross Kelly had the last word in a goalmouth scramble. Battyeford grabbed a consolation before Matthew Wardman showed he can also be relied on for a spectacular score from a free kick. It was a great team performance with strong contributions from Kieran Walton, dangerous in attack, Patrick Henry cool in defence and a confident Jacob Ashbrook in goal. Connor Thompson's reward for hard work and a hat-trick was the man-of-the-match trophy.
