Match report
Battyeford 3 - 7 Westwood Jets
Sunday 28th February 2010
An
even match for a long time, the Jets eventually managed to pull clear
of a much improved Battyeford side. Jake Dawson and Lewis Goldsborough
wrestled the ball from the home side after a throw-in, then worked it
upfield for Dominic Anderson to finish from the right of an enormous
penalty area. Battyeford had been practising corners in the warm-up and
it paid off as they pulled a goal back. Callum Armitage captured the
ball in the left-back position, slipped a nice pass through to Dominic
who squared it to Kieran Walton for the second. They combined again as
Kieran steered in Dominic's shot from a corner.
A substitute
appearance after the break from Arfan Hussain resulted in two quick
goals. The first saw the ball drop to him while the keeper was caught
up in a goalmouth scramble, and he shot from close range into an empty
net. Then he latched on to a looping cross from Dominic before lobbing
the keeper. Battyeford had a couple more goals of their own by this
point, possibly due to some Jets complacency. Two late goals made sure
of the points though. Jake took a corner, Battyford cleared it back to
him and, with his second go, Jake found Ross Kelly who hammered it in.
A good pass under pressure from defender Matthew Wardman reached James
Leedale, who sent the ball up the right for Dominic to chase. He caught
it just in time, tucking it in from an impressively tight angle.
